Carlos Moreno earned recognition as a scientist with an innovative mind, pioneer works and his unique approach on urban issues. He is also a scientific advisor of national and international figures of the highest level, including the Mayor of Paris Smart City special Envoy. He works at the heart of issues of international significance as a result of his research, bringing an innovative perspective on urban issues and offering solutions to the issues faced by the cities, metropolises and territories during the 21st century.     Patricia Bandeira Vieira joined KKR in 2020 as part of the Client and Partner Group. In this role Ms. Vieira is responsible client relations across EMEA for KKR’s real estate funds globally. Prior to joining KKR, Ms. Vieira was a Director at Hines responsible for raising equity from European investors for funds, separate accounts and joint ventures globally. Ms. Vieira is an active member of the ULI and INREV and holds an bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and an MBA from INSEAD.

    Ed Walter

    Global Chief Executive Officer, Urban Land Institute

    W. Edward (Ed) Walter, a widely renowned real estate industry leader and most recently the Steers Chair in Real Estate at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business, is ULI's Global Chief Executive Officer. Walter brings to ULI more than 35 years of management experience in the real estate profession across a variety of disciplines including hotels, multifamily, and land development, with a strong emphasis on capital markets and investments. From 2007 through 2016, he served as Chief Executive Officer, President and Director of Host Hotels and Resorts, Inc., where he led a $19 billion-plus global lodging real estate investment trust (REIT) with a high-performing portfolio of more than 110 hotels around the world. Prior to becoming Host’s CEO, he served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer for more than four years and served in other executive roles at Host for seven years prior to being named the CFO. Walter’s service at Host overlapped with his four-year tenure at Georgetown, where he created and taught the Real Estate Public Equity course, which is designed to explore multiple aspects of REITs.

    Director, PLP Architecture

    Hala is a Director at PLP Architecture and Founding Director of PLP Labs. With over twelve years’ experience covering the full spectrum of typologies as an architect and urbanist at PLP, she helps drive the studio’s deep-rooted passion for innovation. Hala directs teams on commercial, life-science, residential, retail and mixed-use projects across the UK, Europe, the Middle East and Asia. At PLP Labs she leads teams exploring new ideas for the future of cities, with a focus on environmental and social sustainability, as well as the impact and integration of technology. Hala sits on the Cambridge University Land Economy board and the ULI UK executive committee. In 2020, she was the first recipient of the ULI European Talent Award. She received her MSc in Urban Policy from LSE, a Masters in Territorial and Urban Strategies from the Institut d’Etudes Politiques de Paris (Sciences-Po), and both a Bachelor of Architecture (distinction) and a Bachelor of Social Sciences from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon.

    Tess Pula

    Executive Sustainability, MIRA Real Estate, Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets

    Ms. Pula is responsible for Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA) global ESG approach for real estate assets, including driving forward portfolio decarbonization. She coordinates the implementation of ESG strategy across MIRA’s real estate businesses and produces best practice guidelines and training resources to support empowerment of portfolio and asset management teams. Prior to joining Macquarie, Ms. Pula worked for GLL Real Estate Partners as a portfolio manager for assets in Australia and Europe at GLL, and as a consultant for urban climate resilience and economic development at HR&A Advisors in New York. Ms. Pula holds a Master of City Planning from the University of Pennsylvania, where she graduated with distinction, as well as a BA from Bryn Mawr College in Growth and Structure of Cities (Magna cum Laude). She holds a LEED Green Associate credential and is a member of the ULI Europe Young Leaders Executive Committee.

    Director, Rethinking.RE

    Dror Poleg is the author of Rethinking Real Estate and the Co-Chair of the Urban Land Institute’s Technology and Innovation Council in New York. His insights on the future of cities and buildings have been featured in publications including the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, NBC, Forbes, The Times, and The Globe and Mail. Dror briefs and advises senior executives from multibillion dollar companies such as UBS, Goldman Sachs, AvalonBay Communities, British Land, Liberty Mutual, Dubai Holding, and Cushman & Wakefield. Dror’s work draws on his experiences as a real estate and technology executive in the US, China, UK, and Australia, as well as on his formal training at the London School of Economics, INSEAD, and Swinburne University of Technology. Previously, Dror served as Vice President of Kardan Land, where he oversaw the expansion of a $3b property portfolio in partnership with investors such as Blackrock MGPA and Frasers Properties; as CEO of Otherz.com, an app development company; and as Head of Digital at Standards Group, a creative agency that served clients such as IKEA, Scandinavian Airlines, and Shangri La Hotels.

    Michael Foust

    Chairman, Digital Realty Trust

    MICHAEL F. FOUST Chief Executive Officer and Director Michael F. Foust has served as Digital Realty Trust Chief Executive Officer and as a director since our inception. Mr. Foust is a founder of GI Partners and served as a managing director of GI Partners’ advisor from its inception in February 2001 until our initial public offering. During his tenure at GI Partners, Mr. Foust directed technical property acquisitions and portfolio management. Mr. Foust has over 26 years of experience in institutional real estate investments and portfolio management. Prior to the founding of GI Partners, from 1999 to 2001, he was a senior director at CB Richard Ellis Investors. From 1995 to 1999, Mr. Foust was a Senior Vice President at CB Richard Ellis, where he managed regional asset services operations. During the period from 1985 to 1995, Mr. Foust held senior portfolio management and investment positions at UBS Asset Management, Karsten Realty Advisors and Trammell Crow Company. Prior to his real estate career, from 1979 to 1985, Mr. Foust participated in the origination of two related international telecommunications companies, Consortium Communications International and Progressive Systems Inc. The companies provided message switching and turn-key networks for multinational corporations. Mr. Foust received a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude from Harvard University and a Master of Business Administration degree from Harvard Business School.

    Andrea Carpenter

    Women Talk Real Estate

    Andrea Carpenter is a Director of Women Talk Real Estate, and a writer and communications consultant in the property industry. As a Director of Women Talk Real Estate, Andrea helps raise the visibility of female experts in the industry through the stage and media. On the writing side, her book about the history of the modern European property industry, High Rise and Fall, was published by Routledge in September 2018. Andrea began her career as a journalist at Property Week before moving on to be editor of EuroProperty for seven years. Following this she worked for various industry bodies including the Urban Land Institute, INREV in Amsterdam, and its sister organisation ANREV in Hong Kong. On returning to the UK, she worked as Head of Marketing and Communications EMEA at CBRE Global Investors.

    A native New Yorker, Christopher Choa works with city governments and private clients to improve regional rankings and urban performance. As the director of OUTCOMIST, he focuses on outcome-based planning, urban masterplanning, and generative digital design. Choa is a Global Trustee of the Urban Land Institute. As a non-executive director, he advises organizations related to real-estate, urban mobility, energy, and digital arts. He previously led AECOM’s Cities Consulting practice and was an appointed advisor to the Mayor of London.

    Owen Thomas

    Chief Executive Officer, Boston Properties

    Owen D. Thomas is the Chief Executive Officer and a Director of Boston Properties. He is a Director of Lehman Brothers Holdings and served as its first Chairman from 2012 until 2013 when he joined Boston Properties. Prior to Lehman, Mr. Thomas was with Morgan Stanley for 24 years serving in a number of different roles, business units and locations, including Chief Executive Officer of Morgan Stanley Asia and Chairman of Mitsubishi UFJ Morgan Stanley Securities, while living in Hong Kong from 2008 until 2011. He also held the roles of President of Morgan Stanley Investment Management, Head of Morgan Stanley Real Estate and served on Morgan Stanley's Management Committee from 2005 until 2011. Mr. Thomas is the Global Chairman of the Urban Land Institute, a Director of the Urban Land Institute Foundation, a Director of the Real Estate Roundtable, and a member of the Executive Board of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts. He is a Director of Episcopal Charities of New York and formerly Chairman of the Pension Real Estate Association and Director of the University of Virginia Investment Management Company. He attended and is a former Trustee of Woodberry Forest School, received a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.

    Anthony Williams

    Chief Executive Officer, Federal City Council

    Tony Williams, the former Mayor of Washington, D.C. (1999 – 2007), is the current Chief Executive Officer of the Federal City Council, an organization which serves as a catalyst for progress in the Nation’s Capital by focusing the creative and administrative talents of Washington’s business and professional leaders on major problems and opportunities that are facing the City. Prior to this he served as the Executive Director of the Global Government Practice at the Corporate Executive Board in Arlington, Virginia. He also serves as the William H. Bloomberg Lecturer in Public Management at the Harvard Kennedy School. In addition, he is a Senior Consultant to the firm McKenna Long and Aldridge, with particular emphasis on its municipal restructuring practice. During his two terms as Mayor, he is widely credited with leading the comeback of Washington D.C., restoring the finances of our nation’s capital, and improving the performance of government agencies, all while lowering taxes and investing in infrastructure and human services. Before his election as Mayor, he was the independent Chief Financial Officer of the District from 1995 to 1998, working with and on behalf of local officials, the D.C. Financial Control Board, and the U.S. Congress. Before his service in local Washington, Tony worked in a variety of positions in federal, state, and local government, including as the first CFO for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, appointed by President Bill Clinton and confirmed by the U.S. Senate. In addition to his work on company boards, Tony devotes his attention to issues of education and the environment, serving on the board of Fight for Children and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. He holds a BA from Yale and an MPP from the Kennedy School and a J.D. from the Harvard Law School, as well as a number of awards and honorary degrees, including Governing Magazine Public Official of the Year in 1997. He is a fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration and former President of the National League of Cities. Williams holds a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School, a Master’s degree in Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale College. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1971 to 1974. The former Mayor serves on the board of directors of a number of charitable organizations, including Catholic University, the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, Fight for Children, the Newseum, the National Geographic Education Foundation, and the Urban Institute.

    Executive Chairman and Chief Investment Officer , Tristan Capital Partners

    Ric Lewis is Executive Chairman and Chief Investment Officer of Tristan Capital Partners, an independent real estate investment management firm with €12.0+Billion in assets under management across the UK and continental Europe. Ric founded the firm in 2009, continuing the collaborative track record he established with former partners at Curzon Global Partners/ AEW Europe, a €20 Billion+ real estate private equity company (1998-2008). Headquartered in London, Tristan Capital is majority-owned and autonomously managed by its principals with 140+ members of staff in eight locations across Europe. It has developed a multi-year, multi-fund track record establishing it as one of the leading property investment managers in Europe. Tristan was voted by industry peers as European Real Estate Private Equity Firm of the Year in 2014 and 2015; and awarded The Queen’s Award for Enterprise and International Trade in 2017. Ric is the only two-time recipient of Real Estate Private Equity Professional of the Year 2013 and 2015; and he ranked first in the JP Morgan/EY Powerlist 2019 as the UK’s most influential person of Afro- Caribbean heritage. In 2019, Ric was also included in Facebook’s global list of ‘50 over 50’ of the world’s leading entrepreneurs and innovators. In 2009 Ric founded The Black Heart Foundation dedicated to improving educational access, quality and outcomes for underprivileged young people. The foundation provides educational scholarships with currently over 190 Black Heart Scholars at 89 intuitions completing 155 various courses, training and education programmes throughout the UK and US. Ric also serves on a number of Boards, including Dartmouth College (USA); the International Council at Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs, Harvard Kennedy School; Chairman of The Institute of Imagination; Trustee of Sported UK; the Royal National Children’s Springboard Foundation; and non-executive Director of Legal & General Group Plc. He is also a Patron of the Eastside Young Leaders Academy. Ric graduated from Dartmouth College and Harvard Business School, and holds an Honorary Master’s Degree from Dartmouth College. He has resided in London since 1998 with his two daughters and holds British and American citizenship.

    Philippe Close

    Mayor of the City of Brussels, City of Brussels

    Philippe Close studied law at the Brussels university ‘Université Libre de Bruxelles’ (ULB) and started his career as a parliamentary employee for Senator Roger Lallemand working on Institutional Affairs. In 1999 he started working at the study centre of the Socialist Party and became the spokesman for the President of the Socialist party, Mr. Elio Di Rupo. A year later he became chief of Staff of the Mayor of Brussels, Mr Freddy Thielemans. In 2006 Philippe Close became Alderman for Tourism and City Staff. He attached great importance to the development of tourism as an economic engine for the City and the Region of Brussels. Events tourism and city events are not only an important economic matter but also a way to give Brussels a great international reputation. In 2009, Philippe Close was elected as a member of the Brussels Parliament where he focused on the health sector and institutional issues. In 2013 he was chosen to be the leader of the Socialist party group in the Brussels Parliament. In July 2017 he became Mayor of the City of Brussels and resigned from the Brussels parliament to focus entirely on his work as Mayor. In October 2018, he was reelected as the Mayor of Brussels for another 6 years.

    Jürgen Fenk

    Member of the Executive Board, SIGNA Development Selection AG

    Jurgen joined the SIGNA Group Executive Board on 1 October 2017. He was previously a member of the management board of Landesbank Hessen-Thüringen (Helaba), where he was responsible for real estate, debt capital markets and financial institutions. Mr Fenk has extensive experience of the banking, capital market and property sectors. In his position at SIGNA he will primarily focus on banking, capital markets and capital sourcing for the Group. He will also be responsible for establishing the SIGNA Group’s new innovation & prop tech unit. SIGNA is a privately managed, entrepreneurial retail and real estate group. The Group comprises two core businesses: SIGNA Real Estate and SIGNA Retail. The gross asset value amounts to over EUR 13 billion, and the development volume accounts of some EUR 8 billion. Juergen is the past Chairman of ULI Germany and the Chairman of ULI Europe. He is also Member of the Global Board of ULI

    Senior Managing Director, Chief Technology Officer, Greystar

    Andrei Girenkov is the Senior Managing Director of Technology for Greystar Enterprise Services. Andrei leads Greystar’s technology efforts across the globe, focusing heavily on digital transformation, operating systems, and data. Previously Andrei has served in a variety of senior technology roles in the financial services industry. Before joining Greystar in 2020, Andrei was Vice President of Technology & Chief Information Officer at Colonial Life & Accident Insurance Company with a global team that led digital transformation efforts and operational efficiency across the organization. Prior to Colonial Life, he served as Vice President of Technology at Raymond James Financial from 2015 to 2018. Prior to Raymond James, Andrei served as Head of Trading Systems Software at Direct Edge Stock Exchange from 2007 to 2015. Andrei received his bachelor of science degree in Computer Science from Rutgers University, his Masters of science in Software Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, and his Juris Doctor degree from Fordham University School of Law.

    Duncan Swinhoe

    Gensler

    Duncan brings a passion for design, strategy, and innovation to his role as Co-Managing Principal for Gensler’s Europe Region. Duncan has been living and working in London for over twenty years and is spearheading the growth of the European business and establishment of our new offices across key markets in Germany and Paris. He co-led the creation of Gensler’s Commercial Office Building Developers practice and has gained a deep knowledge of the trends and issues affecting how people interact with their cities and working environments. In addition, he has been responsible for some of the most significant architectural projects in the firm’s portfolio. Duncan serves on Gensler’s Management Committee and is responsible for leveraging the best of the firm’s global platform for clients firmwide. Educated at the University of Washington in Seattle, Duncan earned a B.A., with Honours and Dip.Arch from the University of Liverpool Duncan is an active member of the BCO and the ULI, speaks regularly on issues relating to office design and shaping the future of cities.

    Alexandre Huyghe

    Re-Vive

    Alexandre Huyghe became Revive's CEO early 2020, taking over from the company's founder Nicolas Bearelle. After graduating as a Master in Economics, he obtained a postgraduate in Real Estate and another master's degree in Urban Planning. But he developed his interest for real estate when he was a lot younger, doing student jobs for his grandfather, who was a contractor. In 2013, Alexandre got his first job at Revive, starting as a Project Developer. And after only a year and a half, he already got promoted to Chief Investment Officer - a job he did for 5 years, before becoming the company's CEO. In his spare time, you'll mostly find Alexandre at the waterside, sailing, or high up in the mountains, either skiing or mountain biking.

    Michela Hancock

    Managing Director of Development and Construction, Greystar

    Michela Hancock is Managing Director for Greystar Europe. She identifies new opportunities to support acquisitions, partnerships and joint ventures across student accommodation, build-to-rent and senior living. Michela is focused on growing Greystar’s third-party platform and strategic partnerships with country leaders in France, Germany, Ireland, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. Michela joined Greystar in 2015 and most recently led the development and construction team for two years, as Managing Director for the UK. She was previously director of PRS at Grainger and is on a number of public and private advisory boards, including the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government Build to Rent Joint Committee, the British Property Federation Build to Rent Sub Committee and the CREFC advisory board.

    Marnix Galle

    Executive Chairman, IMMOBEL SA/NV

    After studying economics at Tulane University in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA, Marnix began his professional career in 1987 at Cegos Belgium as a consultant. In 1989, he took his first steps in the real estate sector (family portfolio). His own company Allfin (°2001) became one of the leading real estate developers in Belgium. In 2014, Allfin took a 29% stake in Immobel, listed on Euronext since 1863. Following the merger between Allfin and Immobel in 2016, he became its Executive Chairman. Since 1 July 2020, Marnix has been chairing Urban Land Institute (ULI) Europe. He is a director, member and trustee of several leading European and American associations.

    Josja van der Veer is Director Department of Urban Planning and Sustainability at the City of Amsterdam. She is an urban geographer and has long time experience as an area developer, working with international and national architects. Josja has worked in many large cities, developing her expertise and skills in many different roles: as a researcher, as a client for real estate developers, in programming, as a policymaker and in the real estate business. She has operated on both sides of the playfield, for government as well as commercial real estate. Josja builds bridges and creates synergy between different worlds. The Amsterdam Department of Urban Planning and Sustainability is developing innovative policy that creates space for the sustainable development of Amsterdam and the region, an area that serves a market of over 10 million people. These integrated policies help push forward transitions in different fields: environment, energy, mobility and housing. We create a vision for the city government , that embraced the circular model presented by Kate Raworth, and we help prepare the city for balanced growth in the next decade, creating a green, inclusive, healthy, liveable and economic sustainable city for all: residents, entrepreneurs and visitors. For the last ten years Josja van der Veer played a leading role in the Campus development at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam within the Innovation District in the new booming Zuidas area of Amsterdam. In this Innovation District a new part of Amsterdam has been created, with a lot of attention to sustainability, hospitality, meeting spaces and space for entrepreneurs, students and researchers who wish to live on the campus site.     Vanessa is the Group Managing Director of Nan Fung Development Ltd., managing the Group’s Hong Kong property division. She is also the Founder of The Mills – a revitalization project of transforming the Nan Fung Textile Mills into a global innovation techstyle destination comprising of art, start-up incubator and experiential retail. Through The Mills project and her experience in working for AECOM as a Landscape Designer as well as a part-time lecturer at HKU on City Branding, she hopes to inspire the younger generation and push Hong Kong’s leadership potential beyond the status quo. She is a convener of NarrativeHK, an initiative promoting positive attitude among her generation in envisioning the future of HK. She co-founded Quo Kefir Believers, a natural probiotic health food company, and the coowner of HK’s first CrossFit gym, CrossFit Asphodel. Vanessa obtained her Master in Landscape Architecture at Harvard University and Bachelors in Molecular and Cell Biology from the University of California, Berkeley.

    Michala Marcussen

    Group Chief Economist and Head of Economic and Sector Research, Societe Generale Corporate & Investment Banking Real Estate Finance

    Michala Marcussen assumed the role of Societe Generale’s Group Chief Economist in September 2017 and leads a team of over 30 economists and sector engineer’s in her role as Head of Economic and Sector Research in the Risk Division. She is a member of Société Générale’s Group Management Committee and has been with the Group since 1994. She began her career with Den Danske Bank in 1986 and has worked in Copenhagen, Brussels, London and Paris. With over 30 years of experience in the financial industry, she is a frequent commentator in the economic debate and has done extensive work on European integration, the long-term economic outlook, fair value of interest rates and pension savings. Michala Marcussen holds a Master of Science in Economics from the University of Copenhagen and is a CFA charterholder. Michala Marcussen is also Vice President of the SUERF (European Money and Finance Forum) Council of Management.

    Pete Gladwell

    Head of Public Sector Partnerships, Legal & General Property

    After an erstwhile life as a Youth Worker, Pete joined Legal & General in 2007, launching a new generation of property funds focussed on liability matching and Defined Contributions pension schemes, and L&G’s joint venture with PGGM, which total over £5bn. In 2015, Pete moved to lead L&G’s investments with the Public Sector - including the Cabinet Office, Local Authorities, NHS, Housing Associations and Universities - which now total over £4.5bn. Pete holds an MA from Brasenose College, Oxford in Computation, the IMC, and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of the Arts and Honorary Professor at UCL. Pete is heavily involved in local community projects in Harlesden, west London and a Trustee of the Young Foundation, which works to create a more equal and just society through social innovation.
